I Wanna Be Sedated // ❡ SketchSnippet#10

In honour of the most cheerful patient I have ever seen, who came to from his sedation for wisdom-teeth removal singing "I wanna be sedated", by The Ramones. No joke! I couldn't quite make out the tune, but when I asked, with some concern, how the sounds he was making should be interpreted, he informed me (with great difficulty and contorting of uncooperative tongue), that it was indeed, the very apt tune.

Happy Thanksgiving! // ❡ SketchSnippet#09

Happy Thanksgiving to all my New Worldian brethren! =) Hope it's filled with pumpkin pies galore! This holiday actually doesn't mean a huge amount to me having grown up in the Olde World here in Dublin, but it's an excuse for festivity and flamboyant lettering so I'm all for it. Hope it's a good one! I'm thankful for croissants, coffee, my pencil, otis redding and my family & friends ( I believe this is customary no?) All the best lads n ladies!

Carrot Cake // ❡ SketchSnippet#08

Woops, fell off the wagon there for a few days! Here's a recipe for carrot cake with sultanas, walnuts & carroway seeds... have a feeling that should be carraway, but i've spelt it wrong in the drawring if so, so i'll stick with it! =) In for a penny etc. I'm going to have another look at this and try and make it altogether more legible but for now, here's one I made earlier! (or yesterday) I also made some gingerbread cookies, recipe and photos to follow, any excuse to eat and draw, nyom. This is kind of a Christmassy cake too, as it has mixed spices and the carroway seeds give it a sort of deeper more grown up flavour (whatever this means), so hopefully it will come in handy in the next few weeks for someone =)

Got some new pencils n pens yesterday, and am now covered in graphite, woops. (and yay!) I'm looking at previous posts and thinking I should really have put a disclaimer on this before I started, *these are sketches, not finished ditties by any stretch of the imagination, so please bear that in mind when you see my wobbling curves and dirty paper*... On top of this mostly these are drawn in the middle of the night when I get a phrase stuck in my head and can't go to sleep until I get the shapes out of my head by drawing/writing them down... So in my sleep deprived state sometimes things are not so tight... you get the self-doubting drift I'm sure =)

Never squander kindness

So rusty!! I'll digitise them eventually and tidy up those curves, for the moment, I'm just trying to get motor control back, then I'll move to the screen =)

Today's post was brought to you by my pen, a pencil, and the sounds of Liquid Liquid's Optimo (which I can't find a video of, so this will have to do)

A moo to Movember...

A cure for the common cold...

On a rainy November night, Crystal Castles, and The Bernard Shaw's lamplight-soaked call to arms, with hand rendered Bello Script. Now for some tea and biccies.

Cén chaoi ina bhfuil sibh?

Hello.
I'm Aoife, a type and graphic designer and pattern junkie from Dublin in Ireland, and this is my room. Precisely, the view from the corner of my bedroom, sitting on my bed, weathering a chest infection. It seems as good a place to start as any. I am a graphic designer and did my time in Dublin Institute of Technology (Mountjoy Square) for my BA (VisComm), before embarking on a meandering journey through paper and letters, until eventually, last year, finding my way onto the MA in Typeface Design in the University of Reading, UK, which I just finished! (You can see my little baby here) So now, onto new adventures, in different places. I'm hoping to basically use this blog as extra headspace, so I can use my brain for storing other things, but we'll see how we go! So hopefully you'll find some stuff you like or maybe share some stuff with me, and we'll mosey on down the road of art, design, music and related hocus pocus together! =)
